How Warisan Legal Began
Warisan Legal was established in Kuala Lumpur by a small team of Malaysian solicitors who had spent years watching families face unnecessary distress because their loved ones had not made clear arrangements. Wills were absent or outdated. Estates became entangled in court procedures. Families were left managing paperwork while grieving.
The founders set out to change that experience — not by promising speed or simplicity, but by offering thorough, patient guidance. The name Warisan, meaning inheritance or legacy in Malay, reflects what the firm genuinely cares about: what is passed thoughtfully from one generation to the next.
Since opening, the firm has assisted families from diverse backgrounds across Peninsular Malaysia — Muslim and non-Muslim, multi-generational and newly formed. Each matter is handled by a named solicitor who remains your point of contact throughout.

Senior Solicitor
Called to the Malaysian Bar in 2008, Ahmad leads estate administration and probate matters. He has a particular focus on complex multi-beneficiary estates and is known for keeping clients clearly informed at every stage.

Bar Council Membership
All solicitors at Warisan Legal are admitted members of the Malaysian Bar and practise in full compliance with the Legal Profession Act 1976.

All information shared with us is treated as strictly confidential under solicitor-client privilege. We do not discuss client matters with third parties without explicit consent.
Thorough Document Review
Every will or trust document we prepare is reviewed by a second solicitor before it is presented to the client, to reduce the risk of oversights.
Fee Transparency
A written cost estimate is provided before any chargeable work begins. Fees follow the Solicitors' Remuneration Order where applicable and are discussed openly at the outset.
Faraah & Civil Law Knowledge
We advise on distribution under both the civil framework (Distribution Act 1958) and Islamic inheritance principles (faraah), noting which rules apply depending on the estate.

Estate and Inheritance Law in Malaysia — Our Approach
Malaysian inheritance law encompasses a range of statutes, religious frameworks, and court procedures. For non-Muslim Malaysians, the primary legislation governing intestacy is the Distribution Act 1958, while the Wills Act 1959 sets out the formal requirements for a valid will. For Muslim estates, distribution follows the Hukum Faraah and is administered through the Mahkamah Syariah and Amanah Raya Berhad where no administrator has been appointed.
Probate and administration proceedings are heard in the High Court of Malaya, with smaller estates often administered through the Amanah Raya Small Estate Division. The process requires an accurate inventory of assets, settlement of debts, and distribution to rightful beneficiaries — a process that can take several months and involves detailed correspondence with financial institutions, land offices, and registries.
Warisan Legal assists clients through each stage of this process. Our solicitors are experienced in preparing grant of probate applications, letters of administration, distribution deeds, and transmission of property titles. For clients planning ahead, we advise on structures — including testamentary and inter vivos trusts — that can reduce the administrative burden on beneficiaries later.
